In choosing the first wine to review from my brand new box, I decided to go with a table wine by a company called kepe, from Spain.
Kepe white blend label
I think the interesting label caught me.
Per the label, this is a blend of two grapes, Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc. As a beginner, I don’t automatically gravitate to blends because it’s hard enough trying to nail down flavor nuances in a single varietal, let alone with a few grapes going on. But, table wines and blends have their place with dinner. They’re still fun to pair with food and add to that culinary experience. So, when choosing a bottle, if its a “blend,” or a “table wine,” I tend to allocate it to drink at dinner, as opposed to enjoying it by itself or with a tiny snack.
Now that we’ve gotten that out the way, let’s talk.
Kepe White blend with wine glasses
This glass was a typical white wine. Dry (not sweet), medium-bodied (not heavy on the tongue), and smooth. As promised, tropical fruit flavors (pineapple, to be exact) came through on the aroma and in the taste.
I had it with dinner, which was shrimp with rice and corn (no pic; it was yummy but weird-looking 😉). I feel like it paired well. I was able to enjoy both without one overpowering the other.
In a nutshell, it didn’t knock my socks off, but if you see this guy in your Wine Insiders mystery box, don’t run screaming. It’s a great drink with a light dinner.
